Precious Prospecting is a tier 3 crafting skill following the Materials processing skill. It allows to probe tunnels and prospect for precious ore (silver and gold). Level 30 of Materials processing is required to learn this skill. To increase Precious Prospecting past level 30, Materials processing skill must be at level 60.
