Skill ID 3 |
Smelting is a crafting skill used to refine metallic raw materials such as copper, iron, silver and gold ores into more refined forms which can then be used to make a variety of useful items. To learn this skill, players must first acquire the Mining skill.
Procedure
You need a smelting tool equipped like a Primitive crucible and stick
- Place either Billets or Charcoal into a Furnace and light it
- Add ore to the furnace (between 70 to 90)
- Use the Bellows to increase the temperature to 1500
- Maintain the temperature using Billets or Charcoal as the ore begins to melt, stoking the fire every few seconds
- Once the ore has heated fully, melt the ore into the desired shape

Training Tips
- Placing more ore into a furnace is more efficient when burning wood, but also requires more of your attention to ensure the flame doesn't go out.
- Remember to place an extra billet into the furnace when you begin shaping the metal to prevent the fire from extinguishing
- Using Hardwood billets at a higher quality provide better fuel compared to Softwood billets
- If wanting to purely level up smelting, the best item to make would be Iron nuggets which gives 0.42 on average to begin with at 0 smelting for 1 Iron ore compared to 0.44 per Iron bar which uses 4 ore, and 0.46 per Iron ingot which uses 20 ore
- Hardwood billets weigh 10.00 and Charcoal weighs 1.00 each. While both burn for 10 minutes per item, Charcoal weighs less so it is more efficient to only use Charcoal.
- Charcoal is produced in the Kiln by adding up to 20 Hardwood billets and igniting it, by the time the Hardwood billets get to temperature the Kiln should have only burned off 1 Hardwood billet or Charcoal (if you are using this as fuel source), and then you can use the "Pull Out" option to turn 1 Hardwood billet into 4 Charcoal, which makes Charcoal 4x more effective than Hardwood billets on top of the fact that the Furnace can only hold 100 weight so you will be able to smelt up to 90 Iron ore to 10 Charcoal vs 40 Iron ore to 6 Hardwood billets as Fuel.
- As of a recent update, Hardwood billet and Charcoal were nerfed and now require more quantities of fuel.
